Bonsoir, Pat -- MERCI BEAUCOUP for visiting! And while I usually write about international travel issues for black women, my Caucasian sisters are MORE than welcome to jump in! :-)

Wasn't "Harlem in Montmartre" the best? I know there's not much jazz IN Montmartre anymore, but the sound and sensibility still permeates the city. The documentary reminded me (as if I needed it) why I love Paris and France -- not just for the historical freedom it afforded black folks, but its enduring sense of creative reinvention.

I've been trying to get my dad, a fabulous gospel pianist who loves all genres of music, to join us on a trip to Paris for years. But since he also loved "Harlem in Montmartre," we're hoping it'll inspire him to travel with us next time. He'd be as wild about Paris after a jazz-infused visit as I am!

Take care,
Maureen
